Jolly Phonics Project in Cote D’Ivoire

Following a successful Jolly Phonics pilot study conducted for 12 schools selected as experimental schools in Iffou region in March 2018 in which CP1 government teachers were trained on Jolly phonics method, six other regions showed interests and this led to the training of 131 people including teachers, headteachers and other government officials in 2018 in seven regions in the country. In 2019 pilots was scheduled to hold in two phases in another five regions. Phase one which consisted of two days training on the basic skills of Jolly Phonics was implemented in each of the five regions in November 2019. 85 CP1 government school teachers, directors and inspectors were trained in the method. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, the phase two of the programme which encompasses a refresher training session and more advance training for all the teachers earlier trained will hold in March/April 2020.

The success of the Jolly Phonics English programme for CP1 classes in this country is attributed to the great support received from the Vice Minister, Regional Directors and Inspectors of Education, Teachers, and people in the community.
